Great cafe. Staff are welcoming and happy to look after you. No trouble at all if you want to adapt the menu a little. (some places make such a drama) Coffee is good. We happily return often.
Great for a group, very relaxed

I went for lunch with my mother and my daughter on the weekend that Verdict was reviewed by the Herald – it got a pretty good review and I expect that this made them slightly busier than usual. They had only two staff present at lunch time – one server/front of house/barista and one person in the kitchen. Now, the place wasn’t that busy – still less than half of the tables in use – but it was still too much for two staff to cope with and the service ended up being incredibly slow.

The food was absolutely disgusting and in fact, mostly inedible. My burger was so overcooked that I couldn’t eat the bun or the meat at all. I should really have sent it back but I had already waited more than half an hour for it, and I had a two-year-old with me who wasn’t likely to behave for very much longer. My mother’s french toast was similarly disgusting and looking around the restaurant, I saw that most people’s food looked overcooked and most people appeared to be leaving more than half of their meals.

I’d asked if there was a children’s menu, and was told no, but anything on the menu could be served in a smaller portion if requested. Fine, I said, my two-year-old would like a small serving of fish and chips. The meal, when it arrived, was larger than mine or my mother’s regular sized meals!

I didn’t try the coffee but my mother did, and said it was the worst she’d had in some time, with the milk being so thin it was like water.

Bottom line is, there is no way I’d go back. It was just awful and there are lots of better places in the vicinity.

I also suspect that they were breaching the terms of their liquor licence. The person who was named on the signage as the Duty Manager was certainly not present on the premises for the first hour that we were there, although he did arrive later on. The two staff who were present could have held a manager’s licence – I wouldn’t know if they did or not – but their names were certainly not displayed as being the Manager.

My mother and I regularly go here in the weekend for a meal and coffee

The staff are extremely pleasant, the food is good and the coffee is awesome (its like finding a needle in a haystack finding a place which gives you a vanilla latte in which you can actually taste the vanilla!)

I have also gone during the week and been delighted to get a free coffee with my breakfast!

Highly Recommend!

I had a great time on Mothers’ Day in May. The place has a peaceful feel eventhough it was busy. The staff is friendly and warm. The food is to die for, clean and well presented.

I went again in August, ordered pizza always fresh and tasty plus top it up with a fresh dessert. Great service and will come again and again.

I picked up a gourmet burger and fries and had a coffee while I waited. Great service, friendly and caring staff, great coffee and the food was fantastic – not your normal burger at all. Highly recommended

When you go back two mornings in a row without considering other options – you know it’s good.

‘Cell’ breakfast with the amazing kumara hash brown was fabulous … certainly the breakfast to have if you aren’t intending lunch!

Next day wanted to eat lighter and chose the mushrooms on toast. Absolutely amazing! Am still hounding them for the recipe :-)
