Always quality food with a beautiful view of the beach, ocean, and wharf. We enjoy the cozy atmosphere inside the restaurant as well as sitting in the courtyard. Tables on The Strand may be exposed to auto exhaust but are usually full. The food is fresh, service prompt, and is good quality. We know when visiting Russell that you can rely on a good feed at Sally’s Restaurant. You’ll have fun.

We only stopped for coffee. But the coffee was great, we enjoyed it outside by the beach.

Lovely place for a relaxing outdoors lunch beside the sea. Sally’s famous seafood chowder was delicious as was the pasta dish. The homemade cakes deserve a mention as well, they were very good! Friendly prompt service and very reasonable prices.

Not my first visit to Sally’s, and again, it won’t be the last. The seafood chowder is a failsafe dish that satisfies in and out of season. The atmosphere and location on the Russell waterfront is superb, and the relaxed atmosphere is an absolute blessing. Generally, waterfront restaurants are overpriced and underserviced, but Sally’s is simply great.

A great welcome and situation with a lovely view over the bay. We ate the best fish we have had in a very long time, fresh and superbly cooked. The whole meal was such good value that in fact we ate there 2 nights running.

Nice cafe with indoor and outdoor seating amoungst the marine village in a prime position on the Russell waterfront. Great for coffee, homemade cake and comfort food with a varied and reasonably priced brunch menu, although the quality and consistency does vary. BUT their dinner prices are the same as local restaurants that have better food, service and atmosphere. The tired decor plus the order and pre pay at the counter policy did not go down well for an evening meal. First choice for brunch or a coffee but go elsewhere for dinner

Always a goodie! Best coffee in town and the tricky thing about this place is choosing what to have. The cakes are yummy – home made goodness.
Lovely view – well worth a trip from Paihia or a walk into the main strip when staying in Russell. Gorgeous views.
Fabulous friendly service too.

We tried seafood chowder and seafood pasta here, to be honest, this was the worst seafood chowder that I have ever had. It didnt have much contents in it and it tasted weird to me and it seemed that it was from the powder packet or something. The seafood pasta was okay, though it was in a very small portion. We had coffee there and it was 5.50 dollars for a small mug (which they wrote bowl on the board), it seems that the glass (which cost 5.00 dollars) is larger than the “bowl”. If you wanna go there for the environment but not the food, you may, but I will reckon other restaurants nearby.

WOW, what a wonderful Restaurant. we sat down for lunch on the water front (well almost on the beach). we sat and had a lovely seafood chowder and a glass of wine while our children played happily on the beach. it was so relaxing with such a lovely atmosphere that we went back for dinner that night. we even got to meet the owner and his wife!! highly recomenned!!

My husband and I visited the restaurant on 29 Nov 2010 for lunch, taking an overseas visitor with us. We three ordered the seafood pasta advertised as having shrimp, mussels and fish with pasta, and were asked if we would like to pay for it up front, which we did. Unfortunately for us we were served pasta with very little seafood for about $18 a plate. Mine had one mussel and a bit, a whole shrimp and two little bits, plus 2 small cubes of fish, the rest of the plate being pasta. The others had very little more. We spoke with the waitress about our disappointment, who then disappeared and was not seen again. We felt ripped off and embarrassed in front of our guest, and will never eat at this restaurant again.

My wife and I both ate the seafood chowder on Monday 9 Nov. While my wife’s bowl had a reasonable amount of seafood, my bowl was virtually devoid of any. I made it a point inventory the bowl and found only five small (to very small) shrimp and two small bits of mussel. The taste was good but at $12.00 a bowl I felt ripped off and would recommend you eat elsewhere because the person serving us obviously didn’t care about the customer.
If you like seafood flavored chowder, eat at Sally’s. If you like seafood chowder, eat elsewhere.
