We dined here a couple of weeks ago and had a very nice meal. I got the Bendigo Rabbit Pie and it was absolutely delicious.
The only damper on the meal was the off-hand food waitress. While the wine waitress and the chef (owner?) were pleasant and friendly, she was didn’t smile once and made it obvious that we were a hassle to serve. We always treat people with manners and respect and there was nothing we did to be treated in such an unwelcoming manner. While we would go back for the lovely food, we won’t be going back to be treated like this.

We just keep coming back. Had yet another wonderful meal here in March 2012 – the staff went to a lot of trouble to fit us in, (the place is always so busy) and we weren’t disappointed. Fabulous food – and we dine out a lot – unobtusive, uber-professional service, great wine, and charming ambience. Saffron is a special occasion restaurant (for us!) and delivers every time. The food is amongst the best in the country.

Our group of 6 had a great meal on Saturday 27 Aug 2011 at Saffron arrowtown. I had bluff oysters followed by the trio of curries. _ brilliant. Everybody had a great meal. too full for desert. as is normal in Central Otago even local wines are a bit pricey, but you cant get away from it. had a far better meal at Saffron than amisfield the night prior.

Very disappointing.
Rude owner
food very average and when a group pointed out that the fish didnt taste right she was outraged
there are some amazing eateries in this area but this restaurant is not one of them-I wont be back

Visited Saffron with friends over the weekend. As it turned out Arrowtown is only about 25 minutes from Queenstown and is a turn of the 20th century picture post card setting. An absolute gem of a holiday find.
Saffron sits on the main street of Arrowtown in a beautiful building with lots of turn of the century features.
Food and service were first class and of particular enjoyment was my fish. Local wines from Central Otago are particularly good and the pinot’s of exceptional good quality.
High class cooking, wonderful service, there’s a lot to enjoy at Saffron. Worth another visit, unquestionable its a BIG yes!

We had a nice lunch here on a beautiful sunny day. We were seated outside on the side walk which may put some people off but we found it a great place to ‘people watch’ from. Service was relaxed and friendly, something that can be hard to find in a tourist spot. Meals are on the small side but very light and tasty with a definite Light Lunch feel about them. Is it worthy of the glowing review in Cuisine… not sure but we enjoyed the experience and will return to try it out again.

We’d read about Saffron in Cuisine Magazine and we’re keen to eat there on our recent trip to Queenstown. Unfortunately, like the weather outside, the reception was frosty. The service was abrupt and far from helpful. When my wife asked – ‘can you tell me about the Laksa’, the reply was a curt, ‘like what?’
I ordered the Ragu, my wife the salmon. Mine wasn’t bad, although the generous amount of sauce was a little bereft of meat. The salmon on the other hand was very undercooked. conversely, the vegetables it sat on were overdone. At no time during our meal were we asked if everything was OK with our orders. Our water was not replenished and I had to make a real effort to grab the attention of the waitress to order a second glass of wine.
There was only one other table being served that afternoon, so she was hardly run off her feet. A disappointing meal considering the glowing review in Cuisine.
