THE WORST EXPERIENCE. PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE…
Me and my friend went to this korean restaurant RESTAURANT QUEEN BBQ for a quick feed and ordered two dishes, since we didnt want to choose a buffet BBQ menu. With an attempt of trying to be healthy, we ordered a flatfish and a macquerel Fish… The macquerel picture in the menu had 3 long slender fish on a normal size plate. Both were priced $12 in the menu. 5 mins after ordering, the waiter came back to say that the flatfish was $15 and not $12. The waiter was very kind and polite and with his limited English was trying to keep us happy. Appreciating his effort, having been in his spot once and not wanting to make it difficult for him, I agreed to it reluctantly.
My friend got her macquerel, which were only 2 on the plate. She asked the waiter immediately about the 3rd piece and the waiter was not able to answer and said that’s the way they do it here. Again, we let it go as we weren’t wanting to create unpleasantness.
Both our dishes were not only bad, but TERRIBLE. Tasteless, bland, dry and half burnt. I was trying to eat the unburnt side and hoping the taste would get better in the inside. (Which is the mistake i did). Quarter way through, i stopped, not wanting to go through this and called for the waiter. He politely came and I, being a non-confrontational type, explained that I really would like something to be added or anything to be done to be made better. He asked his boss, and came back with “‘Nothing can be done answer”. Again, idiotically, i tried eating for 5 more mins. My friend was cursing me at this point, as she was dreading her dish too. IMAGINE CATCHING A FISH, SCALING IT, DROPPING IT IN RE-USED HOT OIL AND STRAIGHT INTO PLATE WITH NO CONDIMENTS OR ANYTHING ADDED. NOW IMAGINE THAT FRIED TWO DAYS AGO and served now….. If i wanted camping food, I would have gone to one, not come to auckland CBD to have this.Thats wat it was like, with no exaggerations. My friend being good in cooking, immediately picked up that its made from re-used oil.
I again called the waiter, apologising for making his life difficult and wanted to skip talking to him and straight to the boss. He asked the boss to come and talk to me and he refused. He apparently asked me to come to him. ONLY NOW I WAS BEGINNING TO GET ANNOYED, not mad yet, only annoyed. My pleading tone was off the table only now. Yet, I took my plate and went to the kitchen, with the boss standing there and seeing me, he began YELLING at me… Remember, I hadn’t even said a word by then to him. I listened to what he was trying to say. All that came out is that “Thats my style of cooking. I have been cooking for a long time, and the food is fine” and he walked off. I replied saying that firstly, he doesnt get the customer to the kitchen, he should come out to the table, irrespective of how busy he is. Secondly, it was a two person opinion that both our fish were bad, totally unedible. While i am talking, he walked off to the kitchen and yelled to his employee to deal with me. Being “busy”, the owner asked me to wait.
I returned to my table, with fumes coming through my ears and waited. By this time only 1/4 or close to 1/2 food was eaten. Oh yes, their side free food (Kim chi, sweet potato, bean sprouts and another jelly looking thing) they give were edible and some even good… and so we were snacking on that. That’s the only thing worth paying for, which was ironically free. The owner came to us, and I explained again, all my points. Less than 30 seconds, he stood there. He walked off again, asking the waiter to deal with me.
After the boss left, The waiter literally was begging us, asking us to pay and that it was just the personality of the boss to behave so. I realised there was no point arguing or even being annoyed with the waiter. I, wanting to just get the hell out of the place paid, only coz I know that if i hadn’t paid, the poor waiter would have shed it from his pay. you can tell from the way he was yelling at the waiter and I have come across people like him.
I am not sure I have the time or energy for pursuing this further legally, but if i stop a person who expects a decent dinner experience (not even a cheap-feed dinner experience) from going here, I MAY have done my part. Life is too short to deal with people like this….

Food is okay, good if you’re wanting to just have a cheap night out. $20 for an all you can eat BBQ buffet.
The only thing that put me off about this place, were their bathrooms, after I went into the bathroom I couldn’t even finish my food.
I suggest they should give their restaurant a good clean up, and also have their D rating(that was hidden behind papers) up to atleast B!
