The Packing Shed is my very favorite coffee and lunch place in West Auckland. The coffee is great, the food is fabulous, the cafe has a flavour all it’s own with it’s rustic feel and with always interesting art works to look at (and be tempted to buy) Only comment I have is ‘please get some sugar free drinks for us diabetics’.
The craft room next to the cafe is delightful with local and tasteful art. There is always something to tempt you as well.Comment from Julia N. of Packing Shed Gallery & Cafe 24/05/2013Thank you for your kind comment. The Packing Shed is just… More »

Great food & excellent service! Finally someone who listens to what you really want!
Food is awesome, lovely homemade goodies & beautiful coffee. Lovely relaxing atmosphere with lots of artwork etc. Highly recommend this place especially when you are visitng the Oratia Farmers Market. One stop shop for a great morning out.

Good coffee, great surroundings. Indoor/outdoor feel. Can sit outside at tables on the grass and under the trees or inside where they sometimes have a busker, lots of local artwork and teddy bears. It’s a barn like feel inside the cafe with rafters above you which makes me laugh about ‘bird’ complaints because it’s not like a normal insulated cafe. If your out for an experience then go on a Saturday and you’ll hit the Artisan markets there and can pop into the wacky and entertaining antique shop too.

I recently visited this cafe with friends. The cafe and surroundings have great character and it was a pleasure to sit outside on a winters’ afternoon and enjoy a nice coffee.

A lovely relaxed place to go that is kiddie friendly. The kids love playing outside while we enjoy a great coffee or frappe in the gardens over summer.

Love the coffee!! I work in Newmarket and fail to understand why so many cafes sell under average made coffee – nice to find a local place that trains staff and cleans machine regularly – you can tell

My husband and I are a regular customers of the Packing Shed as we love it. We love the fact that the cafe is in the old packing shed and that you can sit amongst the art. No it is not a modern cafe with state of the art sterile appliances that you find in the inner city and that is why we love it! The cafe has character, the staff are friendly, the coffee is fantastic and the food is tasty. i can never go past the chocolate cake. i should also mention that I am a new mum breast feeding and find that they are ‘breast feeding’ friendly, never had a bad comment or look from the staff which unfortunately you dont get at every cafe and is one of the reasons we go here.

There is one word to describe this place and that is Disgusting. I am surprised that this place has not been visited by the health department. Sparrows line the rafters and then proceed to grap onto peoples meals. We had two bombings on our table. The food was very average. Would not go back until the birds have stop crapping.

I went for Sunday brunch yesterday. It was my first visit and I’ve been living in West Auckland for more than 30 years. I was really looking forward to experiencing somewhere new but was really disappointed. Staff didn’t seem to know what was going on. I asked the young boy behind the counter what the specialty dish was, he asked the chef and he said there’s no specials today. I ordered the Westie breakfast (think it was around $17) and a salmon Benedict for my friend. I was not asked what type of bread or how I wanted my eggs. I got 2 nasty fried eggs, hash browns that were over cooked, 2 large bits of over cooked pig, mushrooms, 2 pre cooked pork sausages (very average) and 2 pieces of toast. My friends poached eggs were not runny and over cooked. Our coffees were lovely so it made up for having a disappointing meal. The sad thing is I live up the road and have been looking for a decent cafe in West Auckland where I’m happy paying that sort of money for breakfast. 2 x breakfast and 2 coffees came to $40. I regularly frequent cafes and restaurants and hope this cafe ups it game, the staff sleep before coming to work and I will return each week and bring new customers.

PLEASED TO SAY I GOT A RESPONSE TO MY COMPLAINT WHICH I APPRECIATED. WOULD GO BACK, GOOD THAT THERE IS RECOGNITION OF CUSTOMERS’ FEEDBACK.
Really sorry to say that despite some good things, this place is NOT up to scratch. Went yesterday, got sluggish greeting from person at the till and despite us being the only people there, I had to go an search for my meal when my fiance’s meal came way before mine and they seemed surprised I was asking, like, oh you mean you want to eat together? Please. Whilst my scrambled eggs + grain toast were good as was my fiance’s coffee, his Big Westie breakfast came with cheap and nasty hash browns and sausages from the supermarket.
We don’t eat often as we can’t afford to much, and to be ripped off like that is not great.
Gotta ask the owners and the staff – would you want to be treated like that and served cheap rubbish despite paying good money? Thought not.
Up your game please guys!!

We didnt know this place existed till we saw it in the entertainment book. This place was great! A warm and lovely eating area which was surrounded by beautiful paintings and they even live music which was neat. A lady singing and playing the guitar so it wasnt too loud and it was nice while eating breakfast. Oh the food was awesum. My partner loves a “kiwi breakfast” and they cooked just that, he was pleased. Mine was also lovely. The staff were very pleasant and we will definately be back and telling our friends and family about this spot
