Take a break during your Museum visit, have a leisurely lunch or catch up over a coffee at the Museum Café, conveniently located in the heart of Dunedin. With a great range of fresh and delicious salads, sandwiches and baking, including vegetarian and gluten-free options, there is something to appeal to everyone at the Museum Café. Tempting treats are ready made each day for your selection. From 11am to 2pm, you can also choose from our freshly made-to-order lunch menu. The Museum Café also has a great kids’ menu, as well as juices and fluffies. Highchairs are available for the little ones and they can enjoy the adjacent play area, viewable from the Museum Café. Using locally roasted Allpress beans, our baristas craft a full range of coffees, from flat whites to long blacks, espresso ristretto to mochaccino. Choose from a wide range of speciality teas, or indulge in a chai latte or hot chocolate. You’ll also find a selection of cold drinks – and as the Museum Café is fully licensed, you can relax and enjoy a glass of beer or wine.

by Hannah 3rd May 2013: Went for lunch with my mum today… ordered the usual club sandwiches and caramel slice with an extra hot cappuccino…. we love this cafe…. today solidified this!!!! they were quite busy but we still received perfect service, perfect food…. the sandwich was delicious and slice to die for!! so impressed….. not to mention the best coffee I have EVER HAD!! Not often when i ask for an extra hot drink that i get one… perfect amount of foam to coffee/ milk ratio and promptly served…. well done museum cafe…. two very happy diners!!
by jj 12th April 2013: My partner and I both ordered lamb burgers and 30 mins later we get chicken… some sort of frozen processed chicken… not very nice. Came with lots of fries though

Thank you for your review, we appreciate receiving any feedback as we see it as an opportunity to improve. We have taken on board your comments and are currently working on a new menu, including new homemade patties for all of our burgers. We encourage you to return to the Museum Cafe in the future.
by kaydubya 11th February 2013: This was the first time I had visited the Museum Cafe since the museum itself took over the running of the cafe when the previous, very popular, lessee’s contract ran out. It was a legal takeover, but seemingly unfair and certainly unpopular with many of the Dunedin public. Anyway, the new management seems to be doing well. Albeit my visit was just for a coffee and scone, the scone was fresh, large, and in a nice change from the norm for sweet scones, it wasn’t stuffed with dried fruit. I turned down the offer of jam and cream, and really enjoyed a plain, buttered scone. The coffee was good too, and the service pleasant. Close to five stars, but these days I use Riverstone Kitchen as the benchmark for cafes and the Museum Cafe isn’t quite up there.
by Charlotte J. 18th December 2012: I regularly come to Otago Museum Cafe, and every time there is excellent front of house service, consistent quality of coffee, and never a noticeable wait for food. Really pleasant experience. I frequently recommend it to friends and family!
by Sam v. 1st September 2012: Brilliant service, great selection of food, will definetly go back again! Food was served in a timely manner, looked great and tasted better! The cafe front of house was neatly presented, extremely friendly and helpful.
by Kate L. 21st May 2010: I went there for lunch a month ago and was very disappointed not only with the limited selection of food available but also the quality of the food. My friends and I had all three of the choices of made-to-order food and each of our meals came with fries. My meal was basically a small sandwich with fries, hardly worth it and not particularly tasty. I will not be going back there again.
