This business is a MenuMania SponsorOne of the Business' Favourite Reviews
One of our favourite restaurants. the food is beautiful and sooo tasty, we always go for the lamb and kofta kebab which is delicious. The humus is the best I’ve ever tasted even after travelling through the med. The service is great and they even have a belly dancer which never fails to amuse. 10 out of 10 for their food (plus its in the entertainment book!).

Warm and friendly greeting followed by absolutely delicious food. The wait staff were attentive and very informative with recommendations as the menu and wine list is extensive. My partner and I have been out for dinner every night this week ( all over Auckland) and this one was my favourite. Both of us were full long before we finished our plates but both continued to eat as it was just so delicious! As we were paying the bill the owner told us the belly dancer was about to start and we were encouraged to stay and watch. Glad we did as she was beautiful and talented. Asked us to dance but was fine with our refusal as we were too shy and moved on to braver dinners. Thoroughly enjoyable evening

Went of with a few friends for diner last night. Very friendly and attentive staff. Great atmosphere inside and outside. Really loved the belly dance by Candice, she was absolutely stunning and awesome. Food! very delicious from entree to desert. Had spicy prawns for entrée and for mains I had the Tarakihi fish, both very well balanced with Moroccan flavours overflowing!. Skewers is another must try dish. Food arrived in a very timely manner without any delays considering its was a Saturday night and last weekend before Xmas. We also got to mingle with the owner of restaurant as we were the last ones to leave the place, he was very friendly as well. Overall a must try for all Mediterranean food lovers.. definitely giving a 5 star rating for food and service.

If you can remember times when the owner of a restaurant greeted you like a long lost mate and when food was fresh, abundant and generously given then this is the place for you…
In review I am fussy….believe me !!
From start to finish the service was exceptional, attentive and real …the food was fresh, well cooked and well presented. We all ate light meals that were tasty and well received, although the steaks and other larger meals that we saw delivered to other tables were enormous.
The added attraction of a belly dancer made for a few raised eyebrows, however the talented performer knew the difference between entertaining and just performing and actually added to the ambiance… All round a great show.
On the night in question the extractor in the kitchen was struggling, however the matter was fixed by opening windows and offering a free wine…
This is a restaurant that delivers good food and good old fashioned service. It has all the elements, long may it last.

I had dinner here last night. The whole experience was divine – the atmosphere is great, the food was absolutely delicious (would recommend the lamb), the service was personal and very friendly. The entertainment was great too – they had an amazing belly dancer (best belly dancer I have ever seen perform actually), it was a lot of fun and we even tried a bit of belly dancing ourselves! Overall a really good night!

I can highly recommend the Mediterranean Restaurant, I have visited a few times now and am always amazed by how good the food is. The Calzoni in excellent as are the pizzas and breads/dips, always fresh and so delicious.
Its always fun to visit at the weekend when the belly dancer appears mid-meal, very entertaining! I’ll definitely be back again and again

I found this place on the web and we had a really great night. The staff were very friendly, great service and the food was absolutely fantastic. We had finished our meal and the owner came over for a chat and offered us another drink. Overall, a great night out. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys great food and service Thanks to Eduard and the staff for a wonderful meal.

I am a regular to the mediterranean and thought it was about time I wrote the review it well deserves! One of the best restaurants I have had the pleasure to go to. Always a great atmosphere, have not yet been there when the hosts were not there welcoming us personally. The food is always on top form, highly recommend the Fatoush salad, the dessert platter & the Kababs. As good as it gets on the north shore!

We had a really great night, friendly staff, great service and food was absolutely fantastic. I will definitely be going back again. Couldn’t fit in dessert, wanted to try the Tiramisu, next time for sure, will also take up the offer of a coffee and a truffle with the owner. All in all, a very pleasant experience
I recommend this restaurant to everyone who likes or would like to try Mediterranean food.
Thanks again to the staff for a wonderful meal.

This place is flowing with warm hospitality and good food. We found it to be a brilliant place for a family group get together.
Yummy pizza, and my 3 year old enjoyed her beef ravioli in a tomato sauce.
Apologies to the other customers for our two 3 year olds who were having far too much fun, sprinting from our large indoor table to the alfresco seating outside. That outdoor table would be awesome in the height of a summer evening. Very mediterranean…
Oh, and the tiramisu… NOW I realise why people go on about it. I don’t think I’d ever had a proper one till now. Beautiful, decadent, rich, melt-in-your-mouth.
As I said, great food.

we had a very pleasant evening at the med. even when the holiday snap powerpoint came on it only added to our surreal enjoyment. mostly a meaty dining experience with great humous and oil. only bad thing was the over sized menus. will go back.

booked a table for 8 last night. The food was really great and the service was beyond fantastic. The only little issue was the music for the belly dancer was too loud. Would recommend this restaurant – worth driving over the bridge for and there is plenty of parking.

My partner and I called in again on a Friday night for an intimate meal and as always, ended up enjoying the whole experience.
Have been there a few times for dinner, drinks and nibbles. Every time we have been super impressed with the service, smiles, delicious food, and an all-round amazing experience.
There’s an extensive selection of wines to choose from and the menu has a vast range of dishes, it’s always hard to choose. There are vegetarian options available and the eye fillet is delicious! The pizzas are the best I’ve ever had, as well as the melt in your mouth Tiramisu.
The staff are always efficient and on form. They are well trained which is a nice change from other restaurants in Auckland, and are well supervised by the maitre d’ who is incredibly professional and on to it.
The setting is stunning with palm trees and decor. We have celebrated birthdays and anniversaries here as it’s always ideal. There’s convenient parking right at the door.
We love the friendly staff in particular the maitre d’. Always a fabulously enjoyable and entertaining evening, very warm, and welcoming. Can’t wait to return!

Went to The Mediterranean for dinner for my birthday and was very impressed. Food was great, service was very friendly, and they even topped our wine glasses up at no extra charge! The tasting platter for dessert was a great choice (shared between three was the perfect amount!).

I recommended this restaurant for a friend’s birthday because of a previous visit. The atmosphere was very different. Ordered posh chips to begin. The order was forgotten. Chips arrived in small bowl and were undercooked. $8.50!! I ordered the same meal as I had last time and was so disappointed. The sauce was not as tasty and there was very little of it, mash was cold, mushroom tasted of salt. Chicken meal was average. Other meals very nice (lamb and pasta). Music was not right for dining. Belly dancer appeared with music that was blaring and cut all conversation. It was an odd, unexpected interlude. No specials. No tiramisu.

Wow, what an amazing meal! I didn’t expect the quality of service and food that my son and I experienced. The salmon and steak with red wine sauce were exceptional. The steak was one of the best I have eaten. The posh chips were a bit undercooked. The service was impeccable. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Found this Restaurant in the entertainment book and we were blown away in every aspect. For a Tuesday evening it was almost fully booked out which is a great sign. The meals are large, extensive wine list, great staff. I ordered prawns for my entree and the Chef (owner) came out a few minutes later to tell me that they have sold out, but he would give me smaller prawns at no charge for the inconvenience!! I was happy with this and it tasted amazing and I think it was great that he made the time to come out and offer this to me!
After relaxing in the outdoor area with a bottle or 2 of fabulous wine, we then had more drinks with the owner and staff who are all fabulous
(Thanks Eduard and Kirk aka James)
I can’t tell you how much we enjoyed our evening and will definitely be back for more. Haven’t been to a great place like this for a very long time.

We have been to this restaurant before and weren’t disappointed so we decided to go there tonight for my husband’s birthday. Sadly, it was disappointing. The bread arrived after my husband’s entree and it should have arrived beforehand. I had the salmon and while lovely, that and the vegetables underneath were lukewarm when served. We then decided to try the tasting platter for desert and were told one of the things was sold out. This was a bit puzzling as we had an early dinner and there was only one other couple there when we arrived. The service was OK but for the prices they charge, the things above were not acceptable. We may not go back.

Extremely disappointed after reading the good reviews. The wait staff were fine but it would of been nice to have been told before we sat down that they were out of several things rather than finding out after we ordered or even before we got to the restaurant. There was no chicken or fish available and as I don’t like red meat it doesn’t leave much on the menu. We also decided to order dessert and after placing our order found out that was not available either.

My partner and I looking for a nice place to celebrate our anniversary and randomly decided to try the Mediterranean restaurant. It was late on a Sunday night so we were able to walk in and choose a nice table just outside. The atmosphere was very relaxed with dim lighting and just a light buzz of conversation from other diners. Service was reasonably quick and very friendly. The food was gorgeous and seemed to come out at the right time. We had an antipasti platter between us and the fettuccine and steak for a main. Although the prices were steep I would say the food was worth it. Overall a great experience and we’re going back in a couple of weeks!

Wow! Almost didn’t book for a table, then decided we should. Which was a good thing as it was absolutely full to the brim! However, it didn’t help that a party of 30 turned up with an extra 20 or 30 people, which meant the staff were very stretched. This did not affect our service though, our waiter was very nice, and the manager and wife both came to talk to us. They too were very lovely. The food, too, was excellent, and we left extremely full. We will definitely visit the Mediterranean again, as it is a VERY nice place.

My husband myself and a group of friends went to dinner last Saturday. Initially service was very slow but when we got the food it was delicious. The only thing I take exception to is the price rating on this site. We ordered the lamb skewers as they were the cheapest main at $27. A bit excessive, and as much as we enjoyed the food it wouldn’t be enough to entice us back again as there are many other restaurants with good food at a reasonable price. The price rating should be changed to high as the other rating is incorrect and misleading.

FANTASTIC!!!
Definitely one of the best restaurants…we have been to the Mediterranean a couple of times and we were never disappointed. The pizzas, lasagna, kebabs are incredible! not to mention those little baklavas that the owner gave us for free…delicious…but the best was the TIRAMISU!!! WOW!!! JUST AMAZING….We’ll be back soon…the service is excellent and the staff is very friendly…Five stars!

My wife and I ate at Mediterranean last week and enjoyed a lovely mid week meal and a night off cooking at home.
We would have given the restaurant 4 stars as we had an almost perfect meal.
What bumped it up to 5 stars was, there was a little too much chili on my pizza for my taste. The manager asked about the meal. By the time we went to pay, he had a new pizza already cooked and prepared to my personal taste ready for us as a gift to take home.
What great service to a local family from a local restaurant – Fabulous

Having been for lunch the previous Friday, my husband and I arranged a babysitter and went for dinner on Sat 19 September. What a thorough disappointment. We had booked a table but when we arrived we were told the table bookings had been mucked up and there was nothing available and we’d have to wait about half an hour. We quizzed the hostess to make sure that estimate was realistic given the fact we were paying a babysitter for our evening out. 20 minutes later we were seated but were then told the bottle of wine we had ordered from the wine list was no longer available. Our waiter was hopeless at recommending an alternative wine and got the hostess to come and see us. She had an excellent knowledge of the wines but gave us a glass each, not the bottle, as the waiter had failed to tell her what we wanted. The bottle she’d given us the wine from had already been open with a glass missing, but she gave us the bottle and a glass from a different at the end, not so bad. Our waiter to give us the specials and said we should check the blackboard, which we could not see from our table! The saving grace were the absolutely delicious eye fillets – we chose a different flavour each. Absolutely divine. They gave us a free garlic bread to apologise for the table issue and that was the best we’ve tasted. However, we ordered dessert and then noticed we each had different menus with different options and prices. The waiter simply said acknowledged they were different and one had obviously missed being updated and then told us the dessert we’d ordered was unavailable. Overall we were thoroughly disappointed but as we had a good lunch previously and the hostess was excellent, we’re going to give them another try, this time for brunch.

My husband and I had the day off on 11 Sep and decided to treat ourselves to a nice lunch together and picked this local restaurant as we had an Entertainment voucher. We were initially skeptical due to the fact we were the only two in the restaurant, but by the time we left we were thoroughly impressed with the quality of the venue, food, wine and service. Loved it and decided to return to try it out for dinner as per the owner’s recommendation

At a table of four for dinner on Saturday evening, I was pleasantly surprised by the decor and we found the service was excellent. The menu had a respectable wine list and also some excellent choices for entree and main.
The aroma coming from the kitchen was a prelude to the delicious main that arrived at exactly the right time.
The belly dancer was very entertaining although I did receive a kick under the table from my wife for looking perhaps a little too much!

Myself and a friend went to Mediterranean on a Saturday morning recently primarily because we had read a review in the Herald and had an Entertainment book voucher entitling us to a free main. We ordered big breakfasts each and it was one of the finest breakfasts I have ever had. It was pretty much what you would expect from the usual big breakfast deal- sausage, bacon, eggs, mushrooms etc but Mediterranean has a slightly more colourful take than most. You get a five grain toast, a superb spicy sausage, large tasty mushrooms, a seasoned mashed potato and a choice of sauce. We had baba ganouj and it was utterly fantastic. In fact I felt guilty using the coupon! A big plate of food for $19 is good value when the food is this pleasing. A small detail I noted was the quality of the plates and cutlery- very nice. Coffee was great and the restaurant itself is very nice. I wouldn’t call it a complaint but the meal took a fairly long time to arrive- maybe 25 minutes- fine with us as we were in a relaxed kind of mood with nowhere urgent to be. All in all a fantastic meal and I look forward to a return visit.

At The Mediterranean we enjoyed a long, leisurely lunch in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The staff were attentive, the food was most enjoyable and the wines were impressive. It was obvious that this restaurant understands that good food enjoyed with good company is one of the important things of life.

This is a great restaurant, excellent food and friendly staff……the best hummus and flat bread I have ever tasted, we have been several times and will be back again and again……. The atmosphere is lovely and warm and on a sunny day the opportunity to sit outside is really nice, lots of parking too. Absolutely love it!

MAY/09. A group of 6 of us decided to give the Mediterranean & Pizzeria Restaurant a try as we had heard good things about it from several other friends. it is really our most local restaurant as we just live over the back fence. We had been to this place before a couple of times before it became the Meditteranean and were disappointed, as we thought the atmosphere left a lot to be desired. The place used to look cold and stark with high ceilings, and everything echoed. The service wasn’t much better. So we were very pleased when the Meditteranean too over as they have done a wonderful job of making the place look inviting and warm – especially on a chilly night like it was when we went. We were met at the door by the Owner/Manager, Eduardo,(pronounced Edwardo)who is from Lebanon, and also the pretty waitress, who gave us a big friendly welcome. We could see that the inside of the place had been done up to look more cosy and appealing, and the atmosphere was great. Our group was given some complimentary garlic bread which was very nice and fresh, and then 5 of our group all ended up ordering the same thing on the menu – the chicken parmesan dish with a lovely tomato and cheese topping, served on top of lightly herbed mash. The 6th person in our group ordered the lasagne and really enjoyed it. They have a fantastic cook there and we didn’t have to wait too long for our meals. The friendliness of the staff and the wonderful meals made us all particularly enjoy our experience at this restaurant. Later in the night an attractive Belly dancer came on and ‘did her thing’ which was very entertaining. When I complimented Eduardo on having good entertainment (unexpected, too), he said “wait until you see the Russian dancer – she’s fantastic.”
The dancers alternate which night they dance, but the one we had was pretty good. We would definitely recommend this fabulous new restaurant to everyone, and we will certainly be dining there again soon. Our Compliments to the Meditteranean & Pizza Restaurant in Birkenhead!!!
JUNE/09. We did dine there again in June with our adult children for a family dinner to celebrate my birthday. Food was just as great, with everybody raving about the Chicken Parmesan, Cannelloni Ricotta dish and the Lasagne Romano. Eduardo sure knows how to make a fuss of you on your birthday! He and his waitress sang Happy Birthday to me & shouted our table a bottle of wine. I have been recommending this restaurant to all my friends.
