My partner and I went in to High Flyer’s for lunch. I ordered the chicken breast strips and my partner order the prime rump 250g steak and requested it medium. The meals took awhile to come out with the people who order after us meals coming out 1st. We then got our meals i was no impressed, to be honest I would expect better food at a prison, the chicken was no more then 5mm thick, this was okay for 9$ .. next was the steak this was less then acceptable about 6 chips and mushroom sauce with no mushrooms (just tasted like packet gravy)then the steak was wayyyy over done and to chewy to eat. so i took this dish back and told her it was over done about 2 Min’s later it was bought back to us cut in half and the waitress told us it was medium the steak had a fat bit the rest was thin only the smallest of the fat bit was medium the rest was well done and she said “the chef says it is medium” I’m a trained chef and i said to her “I’m a chef a medium steak should be pink right the way thought” she replied with a very rude “well i wouldn’t know I’m not a chef and walked off!!” so we walked out. This is the last time I would go here for a meal.

We went to the pub “Highflyers”, in The Square, Palmerston North for a few drinks. The service from the bar person was shocking and he looked and acted as if he didn’t want to be there. It was a huge effort for him to serve us.
We then made the mistake of ordering something to eat. I ordered chicken breast strips and my mate ordered rib eye steak sandwich. Both meals were absolutely terrible. The chicken strips looked like processed meat of some kind and certainly didn’t taste like breast chicken. The steak was cut that thin that you could almost see through it and it was more like schnitzel but alot thinner. The chips were soggy and the salad was not fresh and looked and tasted about 3 days old. Both meals were cold.
We complained to the waitress and she went and told the chef. She came back and said that we could go into the kitchen and look at the meat. We declined.
The toilets in this establishment are absolutely disgusting. They are not clean and have a horrible stench when you go in there. Some patrons actually walk across the road to the public toilets.
The next day we phoned Jason the Manager and complained. He said his staff had some explaining to do and would get straight back to us. A week later and we have heard nothing!

Highflyers sure has a good reputation in Palmerston North. For the food, and well.. the nightlife! Good on ya!

Great food, good prices and friendly staff. Its great in summer in the garden bar, and in winter by the fire, what more could you want.
