Reviews for Erawan Thai Restaurant

27th June 2012-
Weren’t greeted when we arrived. Had a booking for 8 people, the guy there merely pointed to the table from 20 feet away.
An extremely quiet night yet we still had to constantly go and find staff to take orders for drink and food. When they did come there was no smile or courtesy, just very bored and grumpy looking staff.
We asked them about the owner, Patrick, apparently he doesn’t come in anymore. It shows.
Food was greasy and lacked flavour.
Won’t be back.

I recently dined at Erawan – my mum was visiting from South Africa and I was very excited to take her to one of the leading Thai establishments in Auckland – unfortunately, it was not a pleasant experience. I think they’ve changed ownership, and I was surprised that once busy dining room only had two other couples dining. We weren’t greeted by immaculately dressed Thai waitresses, but by two rude gentleman who didn’t seem to want to be there. The worst was, when my food arrived, a cricket jumped out of my rice and landed on my dining partner’s plate. Horrified, I called the waited over and his response was “So, its not a fly?!” – I should’ve left at this point but I didn’t want to make a scene – I was offered no discount or an apology. I am appauled by the level of the service and I will never go back there, which is disappointing as I have very fond memories of a place that once was “the best Thai in Auckland”

We too have been coming here for years, consistently good and value for money. Try the tom yum soup spicy hot and full of complex flavour …a winner!

Great restaurant, consistently good food and excellent value, have been dining here for approx 5 years. It’s located in an old villa, so lovely atmosphere esp in winter. One of the few BYO’s stil in the neighbourhood, love the duck with grapes and pineapple, and the snapper. Would highly recommend.

We were a group of 4 that ate here on Saturday night. The restaurant wasn’t overly busy, but had enough people to give it atmosphere. The food was divine (chef’s special, money bags and chicken wings for entrees, and pad thai, red seafood curry, deep fried whole snapper & duck and vegie stirfry for mains), generous portions and beautiful presentation. Staff were friendly, although the service left a bit to be desired; we were left with no drinks and nobody came back at the end of our meal to ask if we wanted dessert or coffee. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and being BYO certainly helps make it one my favourite, best value for money Thai restaurants in Auckland. Will definitely be back.

Have been going here for over 7 years now.
Great food, fantastic service, good ambience. It is expecially good for big groups. Not recommended for quiet romantic dinners as it can get a bit loud at times expecially in the weekends.
I am a fan because it is one of the best value for money dining expereince I have had.

Have been dining here for years, always a great experience. Esp like the duck with grapes and pineapple and the baked snapper with chilis. This restaurant is still BYO and is excellent value

An impromptu decision to eat out saw us at Erawan Thai one weekend night. We were rewarded with a great dining experience. The setting was great in an old villa, and the waiting staff were polite, friendly and welcoming.
We ordered fresh spring rolls and satay chicken for our entrees and beef massaman, pad thai and deep fried fish fillets in tamarind sauce for our mains. All were absolutely brilliant, with the fish, beef massaman and chicken satay being the particular highlights for me. The staff were friendly and attentive without being pushy or hovering over us excessively. The meal proved to be great value for money with all dishes being under $20 and of ample proportions. I would definitely visit again.
