We have eaten at the Bay many times, as a family or with a group of friends and have sampled my way through most of the menu. Love it, especially on a warm day when we can eat outside overlooking the water. Love their eggs bene and the portobello mushroom stack, but my absolute fave would be the Moroccan kebabs. The cabinet food always looks great, as is their small but diverse menu. The decor is clean, fresh and modern, the owners and staff are friendly and welcoming and the coffee is great. Ample parking which is a bonus!

Have been to The Bay twice for lunch in the last 12 months. Both times found service to be good and the food delicious. The pan fried blue cod is great. The seafood chowder is not heavy like some chowders are and is full of shellfish and fresh fish. Not a bad place to have lunch on a fine Dunedin day.

A friend and I went to the Bay Cafe today with a deal voucher for 2 Eggs Benne. I was happy that I could sit outside even though they had reserved me a table inside (you have to book when you have a Deal Voucher). Sitting outside was great as it seemed really noisy inside.

We were both super disappointed that they were out of Salmon and we were offered either Bacon or Vegetarian Benedicts. There was no signage up saying out of salmon and I really hope they had run out and it wasn’t because we were using a voucher. We also ordered a tea and a coffee.

I asked for my coffee not too hot and when it came out (in good time not too long a wait) the coffee was too hot! And by too hot I mean I couldn’t start drinking it for close to 5 minutes. I only drank the coffee because I’d paid for it and hadn’t had a coffee all day but I finished it after my meal when the intention was to have it pre meal and hopefully have another one post meal.

The food. Glad I asked for the hollandaise on the side because it was clearly from a packet. The bacon was nice and crispy but not burnt. One of my eggs was well poached the other was a bit on the hard side and the ciabatta was not toasted so got pretty soggy.

All in all not the best breakfast ever and I was really glad I used a voucher because if I’d paid $17 for that breakfast this would be a 1-2 star review.

The service was fine, nothing exceptional, they didn’t ask how our meals were I don’t think, though they might have it is just that the meal and coffee were so not exceptional I didn’t have an answer for them. They definitely never asked if we wanted another coffee or drink or anything else so no attempt to upsell.

I don’t think I’ll be back for breakfast though it is a nice spot so if a lunch time deal came up or something I might try out another part of the menu.

A great location with a plain English menu, very good service, excellent food at sensible prices.

We had a very pleasant lunch in the sun complemented by great water views, and a harpist busker.

Highly recommend.

We went there on a Saturday Night as a group of 8 with 3 children. The service was friendly and helpful. We got four different mains and everyone was very happy with their dishes. The kids got the children meals which came with a free drink which was good. The food came out in a good time frame. Great location with good views out over the water. I would say the prices are what you would expect for a restaurant meal and mid range.
